Are you skeptical about angel stories? Are you constantly trying to come up with rational explanations of these so-called miracles? You're not alone.
However, some stories are so incredible, it leaves one wondering: Do angels truly exist?
The truth is, there are so many angel stories from people who are believable that I believe it is almost a certainty that angels do, indeed, exist. These are not "crazies" or religious zealots, but real, genuine people who have had strange things happen to them that defy explanation. Why decide there was a divine explanation instead of a scientific or logical explanation? Because neither can be used to fully explain a particular incident.
Take, for example, the angelic figure that appeared outside the Charlotte, NC, hospital room of a dying girl. This extraordinary video, which defied explanation, was shown around the world and depicted a clear, angel-like figure outside a fourteen-year-old girl's room. Doctors had given up hope that the girl would survive a devastating bout of pneumonia, and her mother had taken the disabled young girl off life support and was awaiting the inevitable. One hour later, security cameras picked up the incredible image of a bright angel-like figure right outside the girl's room. It is one of the most convincing images ever captured on video. The video appeared on the Today Show and several other newscasts throughout the world. But even this was met by some skepticism.
My question may be not do angels exist but rather why so many people choose to believe they do not exist. What is it about our nature to deny what is in front of us, to reject such stories as fiction, to ridicule good people who have seen something miraculous. Perhaps it is human nature to be skeptic of such things as angels.
Part of the problem is that many such "sightings" can, indeed, be explained through science. An unusual image on a digital photograph is immediately considered to be a hoax simply because, with today's technology, it is so easy to manufacture images. One photograph does stand out, however, because it was taken with one of those old fashioned Polaroid Cameras-the ones where you watch the photo develop. A girl who was babysitting snapped a picture of the children, and when the Polaroid developed, there was a clear image of a woman standing behind the child. It was spooky-except that the woman in the picture looked so kind.
Was she an angel? A ghost? That's something that most people cannot say definitively-even with such photographic proof.
The question is, do you believe in angels? Are you open-minded? Or do you reject, in the name of science and logic, anything that cannot be fully explained?
