The art deco movement was very popular between 1910-1940 in Paris and nowadays it is known as an eclectic style of design and art. Lamp shades were mostly made of glass and porcelain.

One of the main features of this lamp style is the highly geometric style and pattern with repeating symmetrical and angular lines including the famous zig-zag, triangle, sunburst, square and Egyptian symbols. Also chevrons are quite popular and they are still engraved in the various lampshades and the metal posts of the lamps.

When it comes to the actual lampshade glass, it is usually painted in various bold, bright and strong colors such as red and blue.

As nowadays lamps have a dual function: illuminating the area as well as being an object of decor in the room, they can be easily used to creates some great and stunning effects that change completely the mood of the room. When you choose the right piece of lighting, you will allow the illumination to make a great and deliberate impact in the room.

You can use more than lamps to offer your room a highly effective art deco look. Along with lamps you can also add other accessories such as mirrors that resemble various geometrical figures. Vanity tables made of wood with a strong rich look are matching perfectly this eclectic style. Just imagine a Lalique perfume bottle on the vanity along with some ivory combs and various hair brushes and you can easily let yourself being taken back to the glamorous times of the art-deco movement.
