How To Trick Your Wife Into Thinking The Kitchen Is Really Larger Than It Is
Is your wife still bugging you about how small the kitchen is? Does she keep reminding you that kitchen remodeling adds more value to the house than any other remolding project? Did you discover that your favorite magnetic calendar is missing from the refrigerator door and in its place there is a card for a remodeling contractor?
Enough is enough. You are going to make that kitchen bigger and you are going to do it without knocking down a single wall or ripping out a single cabinet. You are going to apply the Bernie Maddof School of Decorating technique and simply distract the eye of the beholder from the real truth. You are going to amaze your wife and you are going to do all this for than hiring a contractor.
Think about it for a minute. You know that space, and how you perceive it, is affected by the environment within that space. For example at work, if your desk is cluttered with paper and cups holding pens and stuff then the desk looks small. On those rare occasions when your desk is clean, nothing on top to distract the eye, it looks like an aircraft carrier. The same principal can apply to the kitchen.
Before you do anything, survey the kitchen and identify what you can do to make it be perceived as bigger.
The first place to look is at the counters. If there are appliances, knife rack, books, knickknacks, or my wife's favorite, baskets; then you have the same clutter as the paper on your desk.
What color are the walls? Are they wallpapered? Do you have a bunch of stuff hanging on them? Ideally you want a light color with no pattern. Pale yellow or even certain shades of white will make a room look much larger.
Cabinets are the next feature of the kitchen that needs to be examined. If you have a dark stain or dark painted finish, consider redoing them to a lighter color.
The biggest project in making a kitchen larger without making it larger is the floor. The same principal applies here, light color and no pattern. If you're not up to re-flooring, find some light colored throw rugs and use those.
So it comes down to this. Organize your cabinets and get rid of the stuff you haven't used in the last five years. This will give you space to clear the counter tops of stuff you use everyday. Slap some light colored paint on the walls and get rid of everything that has distracting patterns. Do the same thing with your cabinets. Lastly, make a decision about the flooring. Either replace it with a single color material or throw down some light colored rugs.
Presto your kitchen is perceived to be a larger space and you can now take down the contractor's card and slap your calendar back up.

The Boyds $24.99 "This is both a chilling, yet gripping, saga of a noble people; warriors in the fight for Scottish Freedom; and leaders and followers of the Religious Reformation in Scotland. They were the Calvinists, followers of John Knox, determined to institute the reforms flowing from the Reformation in the 1500's. They fought valiantly despite persecution and massacre. They bravely signed the National Covenant of Scotland, and many became known as Covenanters. Hunted down like wild animals, many decided to make the short sea journey of 20 miles across the channel from southwestern Scotland to the Province of Ulster, Northern Ireland, which had been opened up to English and Scottish settlers in the early 1600's. While the Scottish, English, and some Huguenot settlers flourished in the Province of Ulster, Northern Ireland, the 'grin of the wolf' was not long in planning a tortuous massacre in order to exterminate all Protestants in the Province of Ulster, Northern Ireland. What followed was so horrific as to be scarcely fit for the printed page. Yet the Massacres of 1641 and 1688-91 are described in detail. Finally, with discrimination in their midst, unjust laws legislated against them, treated as second class citizens, many Scottish, English, and Huguenot settlers decided a greater destiny lay across the Atlantic where others seeking religious and civil liberties had preceded them. Their sojourn in Ulster, Northern Ireland had been a bitter disappointment. This bitterness against their British landlords carried over to America. The Scots from Ulster became the backbone of the American Revolutionary War. When Washington was in his deepest despair at Valley Forge, The Ulster Scots were with him. Thestory of the Boyd Family begins in Scotland, carries over to Northern Ireland, and follows them to the frontier of all the colonies in America. It could be the story of thousands of Scots who all experienced the same pilgrimage and endured the same hardships and sufferings." |

Boyds Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador $89.22 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Boyds Cove, also known as Boyds Harbour, is a small rural fishing, lumbering and farming town near Lewisporte in Newfoundland, Canada. A major Beothuk archaeological site at Boyds Cove was excavated by Dr. Ralph T. Pastore of Memorial University of Newfoundland. in the early 1980s. The site is now home to the Boyds Cove Interpretation Centre. Archaeological evidence revealed that Boyds Cove has been occupied intermittently for about 2000 years. BEOTHUK pit houses dating from the late 17th or the early 18th century have yielded stone tools lying nearby European artifacts. These tools helped to establish a link between the Beothuk and their prehistoric ancestors. Faunal analysis indicated that the site was occupied at least from late winter to fall, and that the Beothuk relied on both marine and land resources for their subsistence.
