Watching Birds not in a Bird Cage

Are you an avid bird watcher and completely sick of staring at bird cage birds? Then it’s time to make your very own backyard a paradise for colorful beautiful birds. That way you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your home to participate in your favorite pastime. There are many ways to attract birds to your yard; you’ve just got to know what they like. Follow my suggestions below.

Food

The easiest way to convince birds to flock to your backyard is to offer them plenty of food. Depending on the type of birds you are attempting to lure in, you’ll have to purchase bird seed designed to their particular tastes.  For instance, cardinals adore sunflower seeds, while blue jays go nuts over raw peanuts. Make a list of the birds you’d like to see and then do some research on their favorite foods. Once you’ve loaded up, always keep your bird feeder fully stocked.

Water

Providing a clean source of water will certainly attract the birds to your home. At the very least you should have a small bird bath, preferable with a built in fountain. Moving water is very appealing to most bird species and will attract a high volume of birds. You may also want to consider creating a manmade pound in your backyard.

Flowers

Birds love flowers so you will do well to invest in a plethora of flowers for your garden. You may want to again do some research to find out which types of flowers appeal to particular birds, however there are some main flower species that appeal to most birds. Honeysuckle, sumac and cherry produce fruit annually and most birds will love them. Also if you’re on the fence, always opt for the more vibrantly colored flowers which will really draw the birds in.
