The History Of Dairy Queen And Its Rapidfire Growth
Find out about Dairy Queen Coupons and more.
DQ and its history is a story that both surprises and amazes the people who hear it. Dairy Queen started as a simple idea in the head of 2 Americans in the Nineteen Thirties, later jumping into a pace of growth humankind hasn't seen before, either before or since. Definitely, it seems that America and the rest of the world were geared up for the item that Dairy Queen introduced to the public, and that individuals all over had been craving this sort of treat for ages, making the timing of Dairy Queen's arrival ideal for huge development.
As I'm sure you know, the main product of DQ is certainly their soft serve frozen desserts. Simple soft serve icecream cones were the very first item they offered, doing a test run at an acquaintence's ice-cream shop to check the people's demand for soft-serve. They charged ten cents for "all-you-can-eat", and the gigantic victory of their revenue that day showed them that they had created an extraordinary treat. Dairy Queen began its first branch only two years later in 1940, and the same calendar year begun making use of a franchise method to develop.
At the outset of the US's involvement in the war in 1941, only 10 Dairy Queen branches existed, but in the two years after the war ended this grew to about a hundred, and then DQ's enormous growth rate began to explode. In 1950 1446 Dairy Queen branches had been founded all over The US, and 5 years afterwards, there were 2600 outlets. We can only guess as to why DQ exploded at such an astounding rate in that time period. It might have been the powerful yearning of a war-tired people to seek comforts, enjoyment, and cheerful fun, with DQ coming to be an icon of that approach to life. The franchise system also facilitated their expansion into locations of small-town America on a scale that other shops could not, turning Dairy Queen into a compelling symbol of the archetypal small town American life style.
In 1998 DQ was bought out by Warren Buffet's conglomerate holding company Berthshire Hathaway. The chain is continuing its international development, with 5600 shops in 19 countries across the planet. 4600 outlets are within the US. The international growth of DQ was bound to happen, since it is symbolic of American life and American life is honored all around the earth, and since Dairy Queen holds the prestigious title of being the originators of soft serve icecream in the world . DQ is a veritable American success story.

Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen $9.99 Sometimes you have to return to the place where you began, to arrive at the place where you belong. It’s the early 1970s. The town of Ringgold, Georgia, has a population of 1,923, one traffic light, one Dairy Queen, and one Catherine Grace Cline. The daughter of Ringgold’s third-generation Baptist preacher, Catherine Grace is quick-witted, more than a little stubborn, and dying to escape her small-town life. Every Saturday afternoon, she sits at the Dairy Queen, eating Dilly Bars and plotting her getaway to Atlanta. And when, with the help of a family friend, the dream becomes a reality, she immediately packs her bags, leaving her family and the boy she loves to claim the life she’s always imagined. But before things have even begun to get off the ground in Atlanta, tragedy brings Catherine Grace back home. As a series of extraordinary events alter her perspective–and sweeping changes come to Ringgold itself–Catherine Grace begins to wonder if her place in the world may actually be, against all odds, right where she began. Intelligent, charming, and utterly readable, Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen marks the debut of a talented new literary voice. From the Hardcover edition. |

Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen $10.99 In a lucid, brilliant work of nonfiction -- as close to an autobiography as his readers are likely to get -- Larry McMurtry has written a family portrait that also serves as a larger portrait of Texas itself, as it was and as it has become. Using as a springboard an essay by the German literary critic Walter Benjamin that he first read in Archer City's Dairy Queen, McMurtry examines the small-town way of life that big oil and big ranching have nearly destroyed. He praises the virtues of everything from a lime Dr. Pepper to the lost art of oral storytelling, and describes the brutal effect of the sheer vastness and emptiness of the Texas landscape on Texans, the decline of the cowboy, and the reality and the myth of the frontier. McMurtry writes frankly and with deep feeling about his own experiences as a writer, a parent, and a heart patient, and he deftly lays bare the raw material that helped shape his life's work: the creation of a vast, ambitious, fictional panorama of Texas in the past and the present. Throughout, McMurtry leaves his readers with constant reminders of his all-encompassing, boundless love of literature and books. |
