Farm Boy
Farm Boy
![]() |
A recent incident occuring in the remote foothills in the shivalik hills in India has caused a deep concern and fear among the village folk and the adjoining area. The incident took place when a boy in his teens was heading home at dusk from the farm.
According to the incident a female cobra deliberately stalked the boy and attempted to bite him to death. Nearly four attempts of the same nature of chasing the boy by the female cobra were reported by the scared and baffled villagers. According to the people it was a strange and disturbing phenomenon. They failed to know whether the creature had some intention behind chasing the boy. Luckily the boy has survived all the attempts by being extra vigilant and cautious each time and the stranger part of the incident is that the cobra chases no other individual.
Was the female cobra all out to take some revenge.? In an attempt to keep the harm at bay from the snake, the villagers caught the cobra and rather than killing it they decided to release it five kiometers away from the village. The villagers relating the past incident reported that the cobra was injured while crossing the path by a moving bicycle on the same path. They recognize it by its half hood only on one side after it survived the accident.
One of my friends has tried to give the best feasible explanation to this incident. According to him the cobra could still approach the boy and there could be possible come back by the creature. The cobras have more developed consciousness than other snakes and they can retain in memory certain incidents and may have the ability to react accordingly.
Another explanation is that the female cobra might have been attracted to the boy by a particular odour emitted by the body of that boy. Every human has a distinct odour of the body. The victim boy's odour has something to do with the female cobra. The snake must have had some unpleasant experience in relation to the boy and may be some harm might have been inflicted upon it or its mate. Is the cobra out to take revenge?
The incident has roused suspense and curiosity to investigate further. The female cobra, deliberately choosing and targetting a particular individual may not seem weird at all if scientific probe is carried out. The incident can be compared to aggressive tendency among honey bees which target a person who has provoked them by pelting stones at their hive or harmed in other ways. Honey bees come to know of the culprit by scent or the odour trail. The other people around too being targetted does not mean the bees fail to identify the real culprit. It so happens because people get panicked and any provoked act of moving hands or limbs in an abrupt manner excites the bees.
It cannot be ruled out if the snake chasing the boy is left on its own the female cobra will lose no chance to take a revenge as it nourishes the pangs of wounds it suffered in the past. That the snake deliberately chose the victim is no coincidence.
It is a highly convincing incident that snakes have feelings tending to behave in a particular way than normal towards humans who tend to harm them. Intelligence in snakes could be more than judged so far.

Grandpa had joined the cavalry in order to find, and fight, with Joey. Farm Boy brings us forward fifty years with Grandpa not only telling his grandson, Joey`s story but also a "shameful secret" which he has held for years—Grandpa has never learned to read and write.
