God Loveth

God has been understood differently by different people in different times. The understanding of God by man is stated in the scriptures of different religions. However, nothing is as confusing in the scriptures as to know whom God loves and whom God hates. The answer to this question is extremely important to man as no one would like to make God angry and suffer the consequence of his hatred which is reflected in miseries and pain. Scriptures are full of clear warning to man in case they act against the wishes of God. In Bible, God sends ten types of plagues or calamities, in order to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelite slaves go (Exodus: 7 - 12).

In the third commandment of the Bible , God warns the man

You shall not bow down to them or worship them (Other God); for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me.

Bible also refers many times that God loves man and He can be known only through love. Bible says

"He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love," (I John 4:8). "God is love, and he that dwelleth in love, dwelleth in God, and God in him," (I John 4:16).

Thus God is show in the scripture both as a loving God and also one who hates who defies the directions of God. People have interpreted differently how to get love of God. Yet one can understand the love or hate of God by much simpler method.

Happiness and Misery

What really God wishes? Is it possible that anything in this world can happen without His wish? He is almightily and Omniscient. He has complete control over the man including his thoughts. Hence how can man have an independent wish? Thus where is the question of defying the wishes of God when all wishes and thoughts in man originates from God alone.

Yet man suffers in this world in his life. Since all sufferings are believed to be due to the anger of God, hence it is logical to presume that the acts and thoughts that give rise to suffering in man must be against the wishes of God. In the same way all acts of man that leads to happiness and pleasure are associated with the wishes of God. Thus all scriptures advise people to follow the path that leads to happiness and shun the path that leads to pain.

Once who follows the path against the scriptures commits sin and suffers as God hates him while the person who follows the path of scripture does good and get the love of God.

In logical way, it can be said that the world seems to follow certain laws. If a person follows the laws, he is rewarded with happiness while one who violates the laws has to suffer. These laws are not very different from the laws made by the governments from time to time to bring a welfare state in this world.

The Reason of Love

It is difficult to understand the love and hate of God merely by reading the scriptures. All scriptures are symbolic in nature and one has to use his imagination to understand the true meaning of the words. Therefore, the scholars of scriptures often fail to understand scriptures. Kabir, the famous Sufi poet of India said,

Many People died reading Scriptures,

None could become any Wise,

One who know the meaning of Love,

Is the Only One who is Wise.

Thus if reading of scriptures brings love in the life of the person, then only one is really understating the meaning of scripture. Thus love is the first manifestation of a wise person. One who has understood God knows that everything in this world is done as per the wishes of God and that God resides in every single creature of this world. Hence, one who loves God naturally loves every person on the world as he find God or goodness in everyone.

The Reason of Hate

However, if a person has merely mastered the words of the scripture, he is likely to hate every single person in the world as he would find that none in the world follows the scripture strictly. Most of the people do not even know the contents of the scriptures. Even those who knows it, merely knows the words of scriptures and rarely follow it in their real life. Thus such a person is likely to see the whole world defying the scriptures and gradually develop hatred for everyone.

One need not to be a believer to hate the world, as even a law abiding person may develop tremendous hatred for the world as he would find that most people in the world do not observe the law of the land. He is unable to see the whole truth and analyze the reason for the defiance.

Only when a person find himself part of God hence connected with everyone, then he can see every person in the world as his family and understand the reasons for their thoughts, believes and actions.

God is Love

The easiest description of God is love. Love is unexplainable by any scientific theory. Even Darwin fails to explain love and cooperation as all logic points to the theory of survival of the fittest. Yet love is the most important reality of the world that is so natural in man that every single creature of this world is full of it. It is love that one person can sacrifice love for the person whom he love. Love is therefore the true manifestation of God. Hatred arises only due to lack of knowledge of God or the human nature.
