E1000 The First E Series Phone With A Slide Out QWERTY Keyboard – Reviewed With Specs, Cons , & Pros

Slider phones that reveal a full QWERTY keyboard underneath have become the main hallmark of the E series of phones from China.  The makers of this series choose the E1000 to be their first model to have this feature.  Is this a good phone in its own right, seeing it is the first of the series?

Many of the traits and features seen on E series phones all came first with the E1000.  Chief among these features are of course its QWERTY keyboard hidden under the screen, its large breadth of built in apps, its higher quality internet connection ability, and being one of the first phones from China to allow auto rotation of the screen from landscape to widescreen view based on orientation.  Looking good at the same time also is something that the E1000 tries hard to accomplish (owing a bit of this to its copying a Nokia design to a degree).  All around though, it is a solid phone that has sold very well and has created several other phones in the series (E2000, and the E3000).

A few of the specs for the E1000 include:

The phone is constructed from high quality PCP with CE qualifications.
The phone's QWERTY keyboard resides underneath the phone's screen and when a user wants to use it, all they have to do is slide it out and type.
The phone is built with sensor that will automatically switch the phone to widescreen view when the screen is slide out, and will likewise change it back to landscape when returned.
In landscape mode, phone navigation is done via touchscreen, and when in widescreen mode, it is done using either the touchscreen or the keyboard.
The total weight is a hefty 150 grams.
Phone measurements are: Length-112 Width-57 Height-16 mm.
The screen size measures a largish 3.2 inches and displays at 320x480 resolution.
It comes built with 2 SIM card ports set to dual standby.
Only a non standard proprietary earphone can be inserted into the phone's earphone jack.
It come phone carrier unlocked, and can receive signals  on any of the 4 GSM networks used worldwide.
It has solid access the internet using Wi0Fi, EDGE 2.5G, GRPS or WAP 2.0.
With standard use and with wifi off, the battery life will normally last a user more than 70 hours.
Along with more standard features such as a TV player and FM radio, a camera and camcorder, a java platform for adding more applets, and a MP3/ MP4 player, it also comes with a RSS reader via snaptu, two internet browsers (UCWEB and Opera Mini). an email client, a word doc and PDF reader, and access to Google maps.

The biggest pros and cons of the E1000 include:

Pros
Some very big pluses are that the QWERTY keyboard is both easy to slip in and out, it is very easy to use with any program on the phone, and that the screen will auto orient depending on whether you have the keyboard in our out.
A lot of power and functionality is added via the preinstalled apps.
At 1.9MP, people may assume that the camera is not so good, but with care you can come out with some very excellent quality pictures.
EDGE access to the internet is solid and stable, but Wi-Fi is actually quite speedy.

Cons
This phone is very beefy and large, weighing in at 150 grams (which feels even heavier than that.
Though its construction is of good quality, the abundance of plastic makes it look cheaper than it is.
t is very unfortunate that the phone will not let you change to a different viewing mode while accessing the internet (meaning if you start browsing the internet in widescreen, you will have to stay in widescreen mode and can't switch back to landscape while still browsing.

The E1000 is the originator for the E series, and really has much going in favor for it.  If you like phones from China, there are not many that are much better.
