First of all, I wouldn't name these beautiful treasures TRINKET box, however that's what they are best known as by most people. I would rather give them some other names including decorative miniature box, keepsake box, bejeweled box, treasure box or collectible curio box.
History:
Trinket box is the modern day derivative of Limoges Box. Tracing back to the 18th century, when it became a noble collectible for some of the most prestigious royalties, Limoges Box represents romance, love and classic style.
Uses and Value:
Nowadays Trinket Boxes are given and collected to celebrate birthdays, weddings, Valentine's Day, and special occasions, fulfilling love and promises of their masters.
Each box is hand enameled by skillful artisan on a pewter base. It is baked, polished and plated with 24k gold or silver trim and finished with handset genuine crystals for a dazzling accent to the enamel. Weight of each box is from 8 oz up to 2 lbs, about 5-10 times heavier than porcelain box.
Prices vary, some pieces offered by designers such as Jay Strongwater, range between $100-$300 per piece. Non brand items retail between $20-$60. Why some are expensive than others? Tips: Look for the number of crystals, the type of the crystals and the painting quality. The most expensive components are Swarovski crystals; follow by Austrian crystals, Czech crystals and imitation/plastic crystals.
