So you think you want to be your own boss and have your own home-based business. If you are interested in having your own business by joining a direct sales company, there are many good companies to choose from. My advice to you would be to do some research on several companies, such as Tupperware, Mary Kay, Avon, Pampered Chef, Partylite, Silpada, Longaberger, just to name a few. Each of these companies has different start-up costs. Some of these start-up costs can be quite expensive, but often include a "kit" which includes a few of their specialty items to get you started.
If you have a skill such as typing and a background in medicine or law, you can become a medical or legal transcriptionist. While both of these can be done at your home, you will also have to take the time to build up your client list. Which means, "selling" yourself, your typing skills and timeliness of work, to doctors and lawyers. There are also several companies and schools that offer training for both medical and legal transcription, but again, check them out very carefully and compare programs, prices and if they assist you in finding a position or helping you start up your own transcription business.
The most important thing to remember when having your own business is, YOU will be the deciding factor whether or not your business is a success. If you do not have the discipline it takes to keep track of your expenditures, keep up with the paperwork, or the patience to deal with many different personality types, you may have a difficult time.

With great tenderness, transparency, and candor, this book opens her heart, offering readers a glimpse of her unique “American Dream”—the kind not handed down or given freely—but earned by hard work and fierce tenacity. Weaving Dreams prompts readers to dream bigger, think more broadly, and risk taking the road less traveled in business and in life.
