I am going to illustrate Salvation by God's action and God's response.
A. God's action for salvation
God loves the world (human race) so much He was willing to sacrifice and offer up his own son in order to redeem us. This theme goes through the entire Bible echoing the heart of God and the purpose behind the salvation story. Of course it is not effective to every one just because it happened but to those who go to the bank and cash it in. This is as if God has given the check to all of humanity. Some believe in it and act on it; others are skeptic and throw it away. It is effective only to those who believe (accept) in the cross for their salvation.
The bible gives us three great stories in parables
1. The Salvation illustration of the lost coin
A woman has ten silver coins and loses one. She lights a lamp, sweeps the house, and searches carefully until she finds it. In addition, when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together. She is so happy she invites them to rejoice with her. She declares, 'I have found my lost coin.
She had ten and lost one, but she does not give up saying, it is all right I still have nine others, let that one go. Instead, she sweeps, lights a lamp and searches. Searching requires enormous amount of effort. It is not just a cursory looking, glancing over, and easily giving up. It is careful searching that requires the mentality of not giving up but going all the way, what ever it takes kind of attitude to find it.
This is the heart of God.
2. The Salvation illustration of the lost sheep
A man has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. What does he do? He leaves the ninety-nine in the open country and goes after the lost sheep until he finds it. In addition, when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.
Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep. Just like the women who lost her coin, he also carefully searches and then rejoices with his friends and neighbors.
This is the heart of God
3. The Salvation illustration of the prodigal son
A man had two sons. The younger son wanted his share of the estate. Therefore, the father divided his property between them.
The younger son took his share and went to a distant place. He wasted his entire share in wild living. He began suffer with no money now and looked for a job. The only job he can get was to feed the pigs in a farm. He was so hungry that he longed to eat the pods that the pigs were eating, but they would not let him do that.
Finally, he came to his senses. He realized that his father's employees are much better than he is. Therefore, he got up and went to his father.
His father saw him when he stills was a long way off. The father probably was in the habit of looking every day expecting his son to return. His heart was still loving and full of compassion for him. He ran to his son. He threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son confesses that he has sinned against the father and God. He tells the father not to call him his son anymore but just hire him as one of his workers.
However, the father would not have any of this. He is rejoicing and wants to celebrate. He orders his servants to quickly bring the best robe and put it on him. He puts a ring on his finger. He fits sandals on his feet. He orders the fattened calf to kill. He declares a feast and celebration. The father feels that this son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' They all began celebrate.
This is the heart of God
I explain what salvation means to God through these three salvation illustrations.
B. God's response to salvation.
The second theme that echoes in the Bible are that when one sinner goes to the bank and cashes it in (repents and accepts); there is great rejoicing in heaven. In all three stories when they all found the lost one, they were happy and rejoiced. It is Celebration mood. It is party time in heaven. Look at the expressions of these people. The father of the son says, 'But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found'.
The woman who lost her coins says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin. The man who lost his sheep calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' Jesus says that there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. When God did not spare his own son to rescue you from hell, will he not give you all else to live a happy and joyful life?
Our God is loving and Good!
I explained what response to salvation means to God through these three conclusions of salvation illustrations.
