What was the last fundraiser you bought? Was it cookie dough? Wrapping paper? Coupon Book? Be honest, did you ever buy those things because you felt obligated or pressured? Did you buy the fundraiser only to help the cause but not because the item purchased was worth the value given? How many coupons did you actually use, did they cover your cost of the book? Was the cookie dough or wrapping paper worth twice the cost of what you could buy similar items at a chain store? Did you cheerfully give more money for something worth less? The bible says we should give... but not grudgingly or out of necessity.
"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." - II Corinthians 9:7
Let's reverse the rolls, perhaps you were raising money and selling products like these. Do you think everyone who bought the products, bought them because of the value of the item or because they wanted to help you out and your cause? We have all been there and that's not the way to maximize your fundraiser. It's a great way to loose friends and have your relatives go running when you come around.
I've spent the last 17 years of my life heavily involved with all types of fundraisers. I have successfully helped raise millions of dollars for churches, schools, sport teams and community organizations. The fundraisers that work the best are the ones that have a higher perceived value then the monetary donation they person gave. To do this is truly a win win for both parties involved. When the value out weighs the price you'll never have to beg for money again. You'll have your sellers happily pounding the pavement because there will be no opposition. People will be calling you to buy your products!
Before your next fundraiser, spend some time researching what gives you the best return and still gives great value to your givers.
