Located in the Craven district is Settle North Yorkshire which is a small market town. Settle has two railway stations that offer service to and from the town centre. These being Settle Railway Station and Giggleswick railway station. Settle also offers flights in and out of the area through Leeds Bradford International Airport which is about twenty-nine miles away from Giggleswick railway station.
According to a census that was conducted in 2001 the town has a population of roughly 2,421. The main road that runs through the town is B6480 which connects the town to Skipton. Many people would not believe it to know that Settle is actually a quite popular tourist attraction, drawing people from all over the world.
The market is held each Tuesday and is located in the marketplace which is located in the town centre. The marketplace is surrounded by numerous shops, most that are family owned. Many people who attend the market enjoy browsing through the goods that are offered some of which are unique to the town of Settle.
The district also has several caves that date back to prehistoric time, the most famous of these is Victoria Cave. The name comes from the fact that the caves inner chamber was discovered in 1837 on Queen Victoria's accession day. Remains of several animals including bear, reindeer and Mammoth have been discovered in this cave.
Another interesting discovery that was made in Victoria Cave is the discovery of flint. The reason that this is such a rare find is that flint was not a natural occurring material in the area at the time. Many historians think that the flint was used in the making of arrowheads that were used as weapons for either hunting or self defense. As you can see there are many interesting things to check out in Settle.
