Oil candle making is a simple craft, but a craft that creates beautiful refillables. Many of us prefer oil candle making to solid wax crafts because we can get glowing ambiance with far less time and effort. Even if it did require more time and effort, we would choose oil candle making because it produces refillable lights. Solid wax creations can never make that claim.

Oil candle making crafts can add candlelight magic to your home. They can provide just the right mood. Having an indoor dinner with white linen, silver, china, and crystal? Add a beautiful refillable to the table centerpiece for sophisticated elegance. Hosting a barbecue on the deck or by the pool? Use several of your refillable creations for the perfect rustic touch. Spread a soft glow on country garden paths. Fill a small Tuscan spa with warm reflections. Lend candlelight charm to a colonial guest bedroom.

You can do that! Wherever you use the luminary products of your oil candle making craft, you will work magic. Best of all, you can work that refillable magic in your chosen style of decor.

Stylish Containers

Oil candle making centers around the container. You could, of course, choose from any number of varied containers, but think about it. You want a beautiful refillable, not just a refillable.

The container is the most important part of your creation since it holds the liquid paraffin. You may like containers that are short and squat, or you may lean toward those that are tall and slender. Either way, you want a refillable that will blend discreetly with the style of your decor.

Let's look at five types of container that work well with oil candle making.

· Clear Glass: This is the most common container choice for oil candle making. Look for striking, clear glass vases, bottles, jars, or lamps when you want the magic of your creation to gleam. Clear glass shows off the sparkling clarity of your plain liquid paraffin. If you use dye in your paraffin, clear glass lets the rich colors show. Clear glass can also display decorative, small objects you place in the liquid.

· Colored Glass: These containers glisten more softly than clear glass, but the color of the glass may clash with colored paraffin. For example, the light blue glass that so exactly matches your dinnerware may appear purple if you use it with strawberry liquid paraffin. You will probably want to use clear paraffin with colored glass.

Any glass container can be used for oil candle making, and you can find glass containers to fit any decor: Asian; country; contemporary; rustic tropical; etc.

· Brass: Oil candle making produces a totally different look when you choose brass containers. Think of Aladdin's brass lamp, vigil brass lamps, or hanging brass lamps. You can find beautiful brass in a variety of shapes and styles. I have seen some brass containers that resemble closed brass bowls, a small hole at the top giving the only access for filling and wick placement. You might choose brass for your oil candle making project if your decor is Asian, classical, Greek, or Roman.

· Pottery: You will find that pottery containers fit well with African, Mexican, and Tuscan decors, to name a few. The possibilities seem endless! Wander around a pottery shop, and you could soon be overwhelmed by them. What should you choose? Think of your container as another vase for your home. Choose pottery and earthenware to match or complement walls or dinnerware.

· Stone: This can be a much more innovative choice for your creations. A stone container can be as rough as a hollow chiseled into a chunk of hard rock. If you have the knowledge, you can use slices of stunningly beautiful rock for your luminaries. Fit the rock slice with a well, insert multiple wicks, and tiny flames will seem to dance on the rock's bare surface.
