Fred "Freddie" Jones, also known as" Scooby Doo Fred", is the self - appointed leader of the Mystery, Inc. gang. He often drives Daphne's van, named the Mystery Machine. Fred has blond hair, wears a neck scarf and is brave and strong. In several episodes it is mentioned that he can bench press 220 pounds. He has knowledge of various traps which he invents to capture villains. Scooby Doo and Shaggy often set them off accidentally, but the villains are still caught anyway.

Fred usually has the gang split up, employing a divide-and-conquer method to search for clues. Of course, he takes Daphne and Velma with him and sends Shaggy and Scooby Doo off together.

Many fans believe Fred and Daphne are attracted to each other. Several episodes show Daphne flirting with Fred or hanging on to him when she is frightened. Fred dances with Daphne at teen parties. They made out in the film, "Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins".
