Train Ornament

In Victorian times, when plastic and electricity were not invented, Christmas decorations consisted of natural plants, fruits, colors, fabrics, and so on. In a typical Victorian set up candles, ribbons, laces, tulle, or other suitable fabrics find an important place. Crème, red, burgundy, gold, and pink colors dominate the arrangements. While choosing your Victorian decor, there is a whole range to consider. Most of these items are simple crafts that even children can handle under adult supervision. We are discussing below some easy Victorian Christmas ornament ideas.

Raw material:

• Clear potpourri balls and plastic eggs

• Medium size seasonal flower of choice, say poinsettia

• Leaves

• Medium sized golden, copper, silver, and pearl white beads

• Twist ties in metallic colors

• Glitters

• Glue

• Scissors

• Decorative laces and golden or copper trims

• Tassels in golden or copper colors

• Paint

• Wooden bird swing or thick metal wire

• Construction paper

• Card or paper with a picture of a bird

• Small fruits, and berries

• Ribbons

• Golden tulle

Steps to make Victorian Christmas Ornaments:

• Flower Bauble:

- Making flower: Take the flower and paste a golden or copper bead in between. If you do not have the color, you can paint it.

- Sparkling: Glue some glitters on the flower petals.

- Preparing egg case: Open a transparent plastic egg into half. Paste 2-3 white beads randomly on the inside of both the halves.

- Encasing the flower: Stick the flower inside the egg with little glue from its front side. The front of the bead should be visible from outside the egg. Cover all the beads.

- Covering the egg case: Close the egg. You may use some glue if you want.

- Finishing: Paste golden trim on all sides, covering the joints and creating a hanging loop on the top. Some bead strings will add to the beauty. You may use some tassels on the lower side to add elegance.

• Bird Swing:

- Preparing the swing: Take a readymade bird swing or a wire bent circularly.

- Coloring: Paint it in bright shades, like yellow or orange, or in metallic colors, like golden or copper.

- Making bow: Tie a piece of ribbon as a large bow on the top or diagonally on any side of the swing.

- Accessorizing the bow: Make a small bunch of berries, fruits, flowers, leaves, and some tulle with the help of twist ties. Glue this bunch on the bow. You may also use some metal colored beads.

- Bird image: Cut out the picture of the bird. Paste the cut out on a construction paper to add strength and stiffness. Now cut along the outlines. If the picture is taken from a card, please skip the pasting step.

- Fixing the bird: Place the bird firmly on the swing with glue and use it as an ornament.
